hi all
i was up all night with a horrible attack. i did manage to pinpoint the trigger. i finally got to sleep at 4am, and i was exhausted, like a zombie running back and forth. i didn't have the energy.
as i was up and down multiple times, thinking "why god why?" and patting myself on the back for getting the good brands of tp, i was trying everything i could think of to stop it, unsuccessfully. during an attack is there anything i can do, or does it have to work itself out of my system? i tried lomotil, immodium, and codiene to numb the pain. i would take fiber supplements, but my body really hates those.
also during an attack should i eat the good foods like bread, bananas, applesauce, or cut off food entirely?
thanks and sorry for all the questions. getting out of an attack is much harder than getting into one

Hi there - hope you're feeling a little better. I wish I had a great answer to this question, but it has always seemed to me that it is darn near impossible to halt an attack once it's started. Prevention is much easier.
I find that chewing Altoids (a lot of them - I've gone through 6 or 8 of them in minutes) and drinking small sips of very hot, extremely strong, peppermint tea to be helpful. Not a cure, but they do help somewhat. I wouldn't put anything solid in your stomach in the midst of an attack - it's likely to just make things worse.
If you can stay upright, and stretch your arms up above your head, and try to stretch out your whole torso as much as possible, this can sometimes help. So can very deep breathing, like you'd do in yoga.
Some folks find heat on their abdomen, or taking a hot shower, to be helpful.
Best, Heather

Hi Queenie; what I do during an attack is to just let Nature take its course.Just make sure you drink a little something so you don't get dehydrated! that is very important! ONce I know that the flare is not as bad;and only if I have to go somewhere do I take immodium and pray. If I keep harping on when it will be over, it makes it worse. So I try & do something else to get my mind off it,such as reading a book or talking to my daughter & husband. They help take my mind of it unless I'm really running. I don't eat anything until it has slowed down.A piece of toast or jello to start. Hope you feel better!

Amy:
Hope your feeling better. I had an attack tonight after eating something at a barbegue. I think I ate too much salad. I just let nature take its course. I can't take Imodiam as it blocks me up for days. I don't eat anything until the next day if I have an attack at night. I do drink water so I do not get dyhydrated. If I have an attack in the morning or during the day, I wait for about a 2 hours and slowly eat applesauce, crackers, or bread into my system.
