I really have no problems with Chinese if I fill up on plain rice first. Try things that are vegetarian. Or, at least get a meal that is not fried! They are usually pretty good about explaining what is in each meal. Also, ask that they go easy on the MSG as it could be a trigger for some. Enjoy.....Chinese food is YUMMY!

Mmmmmm...I LOVE Chinese food.

I usually get steamed vegetables and a side of white rice. Most places should be able to just steam the veggies in water without adding any oils. I can do ok with soy sauce and sweet and sour sauce, so I drizzle a little bit of both for a sweet 'n salty flavor.

Here are some suggestions -
- tell the staff that you want "less oil" / no MSG in your food (tell them that you have allergies)
- eat steamed rice instead of chow mein or fried rice
- get steamed chicken (authentic restaurants will serve this, real yummy)
- order soup - they're pretty safe for me
- tell the staff to suggest no fried foods, or get sauteed stuff with less oil --- good luck!

Fabulous advice from everyone! I'd just add in that you eat some of that plain white rice before you eat anything else, and also take some soluble fiber pills (Equalactin, Citrucel, Fibercon) with you and have two as soon as you sit down.

Don't be afraid of speaking up and requesting no meat, no oil, steamed not fried, etc. And if everyone is sharing dishes, just politely tell folks that you have some food intolerances so you need to order something special for yourself. No one will mind at all.

Watch what you drink, too. No alcohol is safest - if you do have some get that white rice and soluble fiber in your stomach first, start eating your meal, then have your drink.

Enjoy yourself - you will do just fine!

I think chicken or fish would be fine as long as its not fried.

...and the chicken is skinless, white meat only.
