Have been on IBS meds for years with minimal results. Finally began eating Fiber tablets, and am amazed with improvements. How I have missed tomatoes and longed for Lemonaide. Am hesitating on advice re peppermint tea as the next step. Has anyone REALLY seen an improvement with this approach?

Oh yes! I can especially recommend peppermint. Check the research section and you'll see many scientific tests proving the efficacy of peppermint. Caps or tea, both quite helpful.

yes- both caps and tea help amazingly.. written as I sip my water bottle of tea.. between the fiber and the tea and the supplements other then major triggers I seem to be able to eat anything as long as I eat 6 meals a day.... things that weren't direct triggers but I could not always eat before (the occasional trigger foods) seem fine now... its so nice!

My doctor told me that my pain will never go away. As for the peppermint tea, I haven't tried it. But I have drank ginger tea which I don't care for. You have to try the chamomile teas from celestial seasons. They're excellent. Just make sure you drink plenty of water too not just tea.

peppermint is an absolute godsend. it does so much more then any medication. chamomile is also great and strong ginger root tea is such a place of comfort when the nausea sets in. PLEEAAASE give it a go!!!

Herbal teas count as "water", since they don't contain caffeine or anything else that will dehydrate you.
I've tried peppermint and find it really does work for the spasms and cramps. *However*, I have stomach problems as well, and find that it gives me reflux, so I can't take the caps - too strong - I only do the tea, and in limited amounts. My doctor told me to avoid it altogether, but it works too well to follow her advice in this one.

I didn't want to scare Ed but I got a kidney stone and all I was drinking was the teas. The doc said that was probably the cause. They were all mad at me because I kept swearing from the pain.

I stay away from teas too as I'm prone to stones.

I really love the peppermint tea. It tastes good and sometimes it is the only thing that helps with the pain. The ginger tea is good but sometimes tastes too strong. The tea is a nice break from just drinking water.
