Hi everyone I really need advice. I was diagnosed with IBS D 8 years ago. You would think that I would know how to deal with it by now wouldnt you.
but anyway I felt quite ok for the last 4 years. Almost no attacks, no pain. Although I was taking 2 immodium a day just to be sure I felt fine. I could eat everything. Unfortunately last week I had the worse stomach ache ever. Then 2 days later really bad diarrhoea and the diarrhoea lasted for the last 6 days. The last 2 days I ate only bananas and white rice. Diarrhoea stopped but my stool (sorry) was still very soft. Today I thought I would risk it and try and eat something else. I ate boiled potatoes and poached salmon (safe foods?) And some beetroot with it and straight away after eating it I had to run to the toilet. It went straight through me. I dont know what to do to just have a normal stool. I dont want to live on bananas and rice forever. I also lost 7 pounds in 5 days. Can someone please help me and tell me what do you do or what can I do to stabilise my stools? I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much to anyone who replies. I am feeling pretty rubbish. I wish I could go back to feeling ok again.

Could be a bug/Seeing doctor? Read Heather's book(s)? Taking acacia soluble fiber?...slows down diarriah AND blood sugar swings too, feeds bifidus in colon, great stuff. Peppermint caps? Chamomile and or peppermint tea? Non-dairy PROBIOS?(with non-chlorinated water preferably). PREVENTION IS KEY..Eating smaller meals frequently? Chewing well?...just some tips. The meal sounded ok. Menus are in both of Heather's books..I got my books at a used book store after checking out from the library...some of their info is previewed on this site. Sometime's it can be from a stressful period pre-diarriah and stressful post-diarriah going on. Or, drinking too much water too quickly. Or, taking wrong supplements/herbs. (Posing ideas for general readers too). I'm thinking of ya!

Hi. Thanks for your reply. My sister is really worried about me. She thinks its not normal not to be able to keep anything inside. She thinks its something a lot worse. Does anyone have the same problem? Im starting to get worried what if it is something worse? I dont even know what to avoid (what food) as everything makes me go to toilet which is strange. Im going to order acacia and I ordered align probiotics so going to try that. Is that a good idea? Are align probiotics any good? Thanks

Hi, nice signature..Important to not take any "pre"biotics that are sometimes included in some probiotics. Best to start taking probiotics before diagnosed and ongoingly..I don't know your doc's advice when diagnosed. Mine never even referred me to a dietician and that's when my weight was starting to drop;Probably because insurances don't cover them. Acacia should regulate you. Have you gotten this instantly emailed?: http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/cheatsheet.asp web page I can't handle the oatmeal or other of the higher soluble fiber foods, maybe in smaller quantities. There are also some menus in both Heather's books.

Hi. I was never referred to a dietician either. I am going back to doctors to basically tell them how useless they are and that I want blood test and referral to dietician or ibs specialist. There must be some in the uk. Its ridiculous having to work out the illness on your own. What are doctors for? I oredered align probiotics. Is that ok to take? Thanks

It contains infantis. I've read and used the main ones acidophillus and bifidus that you usually always see in yogurt, which I've taken enteric coated & non-dairy based, starting no less than 10 billion Total per cap. of an average maintenance dose. Considering some probiotics can have a cfu count of up to 100 bill. or more for very critical need, 1 billion is very low. Acacia fiber is a prebiotic, that didn't cause me any problems. What you want to increase that the acacia feeds is the Bifidus in the colon. Acidophillus should help break down food before it gets to the colon. This is what I've gathered in my reading.
