I've been following Heather's advice - now I am more constipated... 2nd day. Is this normal? I hate being constipated. And 2 days ago I had pain and diarrhea.
uggh. I need some encouragement!!

Don't worry, it's normal for some to alternate back and forth. If you aren't having pain, you could try adding more IF foods such as vegetables from Heather's list. Remember to drink plenty of water, and are you taking a fiber supplement?

It takes a while to get yourself settled and know exactly how to eat for your own body. Stay patient, keep following the advice on this site, and ask lots of questions.
Goodluck,
Kat

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm concerned about adding IF since I haven't stabilized. What would you suggest?
Yes I am taking a fiber supplement... right now Benefiber while I wait for Heather's Tummy Fiber to be delivered.
I am trying to drink tons of water.
I am eating mostly SF - do you think that's why I'm constipated? or should it all balance out??
Thanks so much for the encouragement!!

You will probably remain constipated until you get some IF into your diet. Incorporate it safely....after eating some SF, well cooked, maybe pureed to start.

Many people are scared to eat IF....but Heather insists that it is necessary.

I managed to eat only SF foods for quite a while without constipation, but it's different for everyone.

Once the D clears up then it's time to start adding new foods SLOWLY! The key to adding in IF foods is small amounts often and with SF foods. As long as you aren't having pain, bloating or D from doing this, then you should be fine. First make sure you're getting good SF fruits and veggies (carrots, bananas, applesauce). Check Heather's IBS Cheat Sheet http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/cheatsheet.asp for a list of foods to eat.

Let us know how you do,
Kat

It can take a long time to get stable, and you need to eat IF before then! IF is not destabilizing if you eat it with SF and prepare it properly (chopped, cooked, and peeled veggies and fruit to start with).

Sufficient liquid and exercise are also good things to keep the C at bay.

Hey Dott,

I 've heard you should drink a couple of cups of fennel tea a day, & then drink as needed for gas pains.
