Alright, I did a search & it seems That a colon cleanse is not what us IBSers should be on. Well, I've been on one for a while now, & am beginning to notice that maybe once a day right before I have to go, I'll cramp up. I tried to cut back on it, but just ended up C again, so now, I'm back on it. I'm thinking about trying Heather's fiber supplement. I have metamucill at home, but I have read here that it causes gas wich I have enough of already. And Citricell upsets my tummy. So, do I get Heather's fiber? I was thinking about going to my GI (who recomended the colon cleanse), but am unsure. I'm totally confused. If I get on Heather's how do I trasfer from one to the other? I guess I'm just frightened, I just started feeling better after getting back on the colon claense, so I hate to o back to C, but I may just have to, until my systems regulates to Heather's. I wish there were a pill form, the powders play havoc on my tummy...please help. Thanx

I am not really sure. My GI totally objected to me doing a colon cleanse. There has been alot of talk about Colon Cleasne recently on the boards and everyone says "NO". I would just stop with the cleasne and try a fiber supplement. Metamucil did wonders for me.

Did you get gas from it?

Only thing I can say is go slow with Heather's fiber. What gas it has given me I've been able to off set with beano and fennel. I still use citrucel. Doctor recomended it saying it does not produce gas. Meta has always given gas.

There is a clear Citrucel out now with no orange flavor if maybe the flavor is what upsets you.

Out of curiosity did you follow a cleanse diet or did you keep eating the same as you always do? I've read that when you do cleanses, you have to follow a diet that is mainly liquids, green drinks, and vegetables.

Kiwii,rn21666 is correct, and she probably does get gas from
the metamucil. However, just try starting Heather's acacia
SFS, it's available on line on this site. Just click on the
supplements. If you have Miralax, you might to take some of
that, probably one dose a day will do. This will keep you
going once you stop the colon cleanse, which is a good idea.

I do, but I do alot of sit-ups at the first sign and I can usually fight my way for the rest of the day. I also use a heating pad when possible. Good luck.

No I didn't follow any real diet, but I did start eating healthier, espesially after finding this site. My GI never mentioned anything about a specific diet.

O.k., I bought some Citrecell capsels yesterday, & read some of Heather's "First Year" book. It says to transfer slowly from one form to another. So, here's my plan:

I will slowly decrease my Colon Cleanse starting today,

next week, I'll decrease it more

the following week I will make the transition by starting a half & half thing. (citricell in the a.m. & colon cleanse in the p.m.),

the following week I will be off the Colon Cleanse completely.

I'm trying to take it slow, so I don't send my system into a frenzy.
If this sounds like a bad idea, or if you have other suggestions, please let me know. Thanx

Your plan sounds good. Here are a couple of links that might help you with it, in case you haven't already run across them:

Sticky post about how to switch from another SFS to acacia; you should be able to apply the same logic to switching from metamucil to Citracel

Newsletter archive - In June 2005 Heather did a couple of newsletters specifically on the 5 frustrations of C; she talks specifically about transitioning gradually from relying on laxatives and/or colon cleanses to relying on SFS

HTH. Good luck.

I have read a lot about cleanses, I've known people who've done cleanses, and I did a quasi-cleanse with IBS Support by Renewlife. (It's not really classed as a colon cleanse because it doesn't have everything in it that makes you go.)

Anyhow, when you do the cleanse, you're suppose to eat very light, have lots of liquids, green drinks, and vegetables raw or cooked, so your system is in a cleansing state. Otherwise, you'll congest your system, and cause problems. After doing the cleanse, you're suppose to take supplements and probiotics to support your intestines, and gradually introduce back solid foods, otherwise it will be too much for your system to take and it will cause all kinds of havoc.

I am by no means an expert, but many people, including doctors, don't know everything that's involved in doing a proper cleanse, and I think that's where it will cause people a lot of troubles.
