Nothing works for me.

I'm 19 and I have severe diarrhea, basically I have IBS. I cant leave my house, I can't predict my body, and I always have some kind of diarrhea. I have to get up 6-7 hours before I have somewhere to go, and take 6-8 anti diarrheals, while not eating a whole day prior.

I started taking these fiber chewables... I always had some form of diarrhea in the mornings on those. I read up for hours on your product, and realized...those chew ables had artificial sweeteners, that must be the reason. I found out about Soluble fiber, and that White Rice is easy on my stomach. However, I finally got your Powder Fiber and Peppermint pills today. I took the powder at 1/2 a teaspoon to start of small, and then I took a peppermint pill. 10 Minutes after taking the peppermint pill, followed by increasing stomach cramps, I was forced very speedily into the bathroom, and had SEVERE diarrhea, that is still going on by the way, with a cold burn like you would feel if toothpaste gets on your skin. I know it was the peppermint, because that was the overpowering scent. I cant understand why a pill thats only purpose is to calm my body, end cramps, and stop diarrhea, ended up giving me cramps, forcing me to have horrible diarrhea and expelling whatever is in my body like its some kind of laxative. I can't trust those pills anymore. I can't rely on anything, everything thats said to make me better either makes me worse or does nothing at all. I haven't taken the Fiber enough to know how well it works, but all the fiber I've had in the past has done nothing for me. Im afraid to take the peppermint oil pills again because I know what happens, and it was scary enough the first time. I don't know what to do, and I can't live like this anymore. The doctors can't help, they just run tests after tests after tests, and the only thing they have given me is lomotil.

I would like to mention that before I took the peppermint pill, I took fiber with a full glass of water. I hear that water dissolves the pills, maybe the peppermint being dissolved in my stomach may have agitated my body and caused me to expel what I did. So now on top of my lack of confidence in the peppermint pills (i really want them to work) I'm wondering how I could possibly take 3 of them on an empty stomach if I am to eat at all in the day. I mean my stomach will only be empty one time, and thats in the morning. So if there is anything in my stomach at all, the peppermint will dissolve in my stomach and cause me to have another one of those horrible episodes.

Stop taking the peppermint - you may be sensitive to it for it some reason and it's not necessary to take peppermint in order to benefit from Heather's approach. Click here and scroll to the bottom of the screen to read about this Website's return policy.

Acacia is not like a drug that will somehow cure your IBS or even eliminate the symptoms all by itself. What is does is help you get enough Soluble Fiber to soothe your gut without your having to eat tons of SF food. So stick with it and increase the amount slowly. However, a Soluble Fiber Supplement by itself - even Heather's Acacia - is not going to be enough - you really need to follow all the Diet guidelines.

I recommend you do the reading on how Heather's overall Eating For IBS Diet works and follow the guidelines fully and see how you do. I strongly recommend reading "IBS: The First Year" - your local library may have it or you can order it from this Website, Amazon, or B&N. If you want to do the basic reading while waiting to get hold of the book, take a look at this old post of mine and follow the links. That should get you going.

This approach worked wonders for me after everything else had failed so please give it a good try. If you have questions, please ask. There's more traffic on the IBS Diet Board so you might get more responses there.

HTH.
