This website is kind of complicated, but here goes. I have been having stomach problems all my life, but the last 2 months have been driving me crazy. I am sick all the time, I dont feel like doing anything, and I have lost about 20pounds. Which has put me at a weight of 98pounds. I feel like I just might die. I need some advice and quick. I have been looking at all the ideas for eating the only problem is finding something my whole family will eat. I need things that are very simple and quick, no fish!! Any suggestions??

What type of symptoms do you have, are you a D, C, or A? Have you been diagnosed with IBS?

A doctor told me about 10 years ago that I had IBS. I just shugged it off and went on with my life because he said I just needed to eat right and exercise, but he didnt tell me what I needed to eat. Now I am having major problems.

Have you read through the IBS diet guidelines? You mentioned you were having some difficulty with the site, maybe this link will help: IBS Diet FAQs . Also, you might want to check out The First Year: IBS book which includes the information on this site, sample menus, and a list of resources. This may be easier to follow since it's in book format.

As far as meals that you and your family could enjoy, have you checked out the IBS Recipes board? Or the IBS Recipe Index?

Your doctor's response sounds familiar! Did he do any tests to rule out other medical problems? It might be time for you to get a second opinion or see a GI specialist, just to rule out anything more serious than IBS.

If you want to get stable, you'll have to avoid dairy products even if you're not lactose intolerant. The proteins in dairy are difficult to digest and could trigger an attack. Dairy products are also usually high in fat - another trigger.

Here's a link to some safe IBS main dishes (this is from the IBS recipe index which also has a listing of IBS-safe sides, beverages, desserts, etc.): Main Dishes.

My OBGYN set up an appointment with a specalist for Monday. Im scared to death of a colonostpy. Ive heard you have to drink this stuff that makes you go to the bathroom, I can afford to loose anymore weight.

Thanks for the info. Most of the foods look hard to make, and I dont think my family would eat hardly any of it. Maybe the baked chicken.

No, it doesn't sound like fun! I have had a flexible sigmoidoscopy along with a number of other tests, but I haven't had a colonoscopy. It's not my recommendation not to have one, but I feel confident with my original diagnosis (which was almost 12 years ago) and am able to stay stable by following an IBS-safe diet and using Imodium as needed. I do know that if my symptoms didn't improve or if I have a major setback, I would definitely have a colonoscopy.

I'm glad you're seeing a specialist though, because he or she may be able to provide you with more answers, some peace of mind, and maybe a prescription for an anti-spasmodic.

Here's a really helpful link to how to prepare yourself for the colonoscopy prep: Colonoscopy Prep
