I think fennel tea has been the best way for people to release and minimize gas. You could also try Phazyme (or another product containing simethicone, just watch out for sorbitol as an ingredient), which works by breaking down the bubbles to make them easier to burp up or pass as gas. Taking enzymes (like Beano) with meals also helps prevent or reduce the amount of gas by breaking down the large sugars found in gassy foods so they can be digested before they reach the colon.

Once your body gets used to the SFS and after you've been incorporating IF foods for a while, you should see a reduction in the amount of gas you're having.

Check out the site's section on yoga: http://www.helpforibs.com/yoga/pictures.asp#inversion

The shoulder stand? Oh my goodness, it creates a wonderfully relieving wind tunnel effect with me. It really works! I would do this in the privacy of your own bedroom though.

If I'm not eating any gassy foods (onion, brocolli, cabbage, garlic, etc), and not drinking soda or consuming anything at all the would produce gas...plus I take digestive enzymes and a probiotic, why oh why do I still have extreme, smelly gas? I eat slowly, never drink with my meals, avoid ALL potential gas producing foods, and yet gas is still a big problem for me everyday. Especially at night. I can't stand myself?

I drink Fennel tea...but still, the gas is bad and it hurts too. I also walk everyday.

Any incite?

I went thru a spell like that too. Don't know why, or what caused it. But it did go away, after like 3 or 4 weeks. Right now I'm on a diet of friuts, veggies, sourdough bread & brown rice. So far no real bad gas to speak of. I've been on it for 3 days, tomorrow I start going back to meat.

Could it be related to your delayed gastric emptying?

Hi Kiwii, I'll bet the gas disappeared after your C stopped.
When you are fairly C, any stool that stays in your colon
long enough is going to produce gas. If you eat gassy foods,
that just produces more gas. -Bob

IF gives me that, especially fruit!! If I stick to my SF diet, I don't have much smell at all to my gas (and hardly any gas, either!). One thing that gives me a really bad stink is SFS, are you taking one of those? It might be the culprit.

Good luck to you!

Nelly, I have a similar problem with the SF supplement, and I'm wondering how you handle it...are you on an SFS right now? If so, which one?
Thanks!

You know, SFS gave me some weird smelling gas and gas pain in my stomach so I stopped taking it. I took a couple over the years, Citrucel was one of them-- I took the tablets and the powder at different times.

It didn't really work for my D... it just made what came out of me stringy and like, mucusy (sorry if TMI). Another effect is when I was on it it gave me these all-over sweats and slight, annoying back pain. This only happened when I was on the SFS, and it took like 2 or 3 days to get over these effects.

That's what I noticed, anyway. I decided that I'd keep SFS around in an emergency, but otherwise I don't touch it anymore. I know other D people on the boards have had similar problems with SFSs, but that others, especially Cs and As swear by it. Hope this helps!
