Lactic acid       03/07/04 11:42 AM Edit Reply Quote Kree Reged: 10/08/03 Posts: 3748 Loc: Northern NY Steph, here's what my dairy-free cookbook says about lactic acid: Lactic acid does not generally contain lactose. It is used extensively to control acidity and as a preservative or flavoring for processed foods. Main sources are cornstarch, molasses, glucose, and sometimes whey. My question is, how do we know when it's made from whey and when it's not?
