butter instead of oil in recipes?

While we're on the topic, can you use a non-dairy butter such as Smart Balance Light in place of oil in a baking recipe? Or would it be better to use part canola oil and part applesauce? I mostly use olive oil for regular cooking or Pam b/c the SB light doesn't really melt too well but has anyone tried it in a baking mix?
