I'm new to IBS and to the IBS community. I have a recipe that is a family holiday favorite and was hoping for some help from those of you who have more experience regarding the IBS diet. Any assistance is greatly appreciated as this is one recipe that I will hate to miss out on this holiday. Here is the recipe in it's original, non-IBS form:
Horns-Of-Plenty
2 cups flour 1 tbsp sugar 1/8 tsp. salt 3/4 cup butter
Mix all together like pie crust.
1 pkg. fresh yeast dissolved in 5 tbsp. warm water 2 egg yolks, beaten
Mix together. Then mix first mixture with second mixture lightly with a fork.
Filling -
2 egg whites, stiffly beaten 1/2 cup sugar, added to egg whites while beating Cinnamon Chopped pecans
Form dough into a ball; divide ball into 4 equal parts. Roll 1 part at a time on well-floured surface to form a 9 inch circle. Spread with 1/4 of the egg white mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nuts. Cut into 8 pie-shaped wedges. Roll as for butterhorns, starting at the wide end. Repeat with other 3 parts of dough. Bake on cookie sheets at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. Frost while warm.
Frosting -
1 cup powdered sugar 2 tbsp. hot water 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Beat together and drizzle over horns. Additional hot water may be added to attain desired consistency. Makes 32 horns.
