I've frequently frozen angel food cake and it freezes fine. I do find that the mixes are a bit rubbery. From scratch the texture is better but it takes forever.

Pillsbury angel food cake mix is safe. At least last time I checked. The box I have is probably several months old. Every ready-made bakery angel food cake I've seen has had dairy in it, usually whey. I'm not sure why because I've never seen a recipe for angel food cake that calls for milk.
