That's where all diet questions and IBS questions go. Secondly, it could be IBS. Especially as you haven't been taking meds or eating properly for it. So don't panic! Everyone with IBS has different symptoms, so never let anyone tell you "it can't be IBS cos it's not like me". You should have stool tests and a colonoscopy, among other tests. If the doc doesn't suggest enough tests, then push for them. In the meantime, I'd suggest you start a soluble fibre supplement as it can only help. Good luck!
