I don't know if there is any prevention for them I feel for ya though. I would suggest taking a hot hot washcloth and setting it on your eye. That seems to help take down the swelling and pain for a bit.
Also - check if your mascara or eye makeup is old. I find if my mascara is older than 3 months old it will cause me trouble with my eyes.
