How does it work in the US, you ask? Well, I call my doc, and if it's something minor, they'll just call in a prescription to my favorite pharmacist, which I go pick up. If it's something that requires him looking at me, and he wants to see me that day, they'll squeeze me in; otherwise, I have to make an appointment (but it never takes longer than a few days). Going to the emergency room is ONLY for when the doctor or any of his cohorts are unavailable. Otherwise, the insurance won't pay for it.
You have medical clinics up there; can't you go to one of those? When I was up there and suddenly came down with a UTI, the realtor we were meeting took me to the medical clinic nearby. I only had to wait about 15 minutes before seeing a physician.
Hope you're doing better and can wait until Monday. Try cutting out the sugar and seeing if it helps.
