From the psych classes I took in college, I just remember that it is considered VERY DANGEROUS for bipolar patients to go off their meds. He's probably just concerned because you chose to do that. Besides, it sounds like he was in a bad mood before you even got there. Don't sweat it, BL. Your psych isn't going to drop you!
