Kelly, when is the shower? Do you have time to work on this, or do you need to get it immediately?
My favorite gift is a picture frame. If you can afford a SMALL sterling silver frame, you can have it engraved with the baby's name (if known). If that's too much money, how about a porcelain frame with "Baby" on it? I've seen them in mail order catalogues, and they're really cute. Proud parents always need frames to show off their gorgeous baby, so they can never get enough!
Now, having said that, how handy are you with a pair of knitting needles? Crochet hook? Sewing machine? A baby blanket is always appreciated, especially if it's HAND MADE. A patchwork quilt is a treasure, and easy to make too! I mean, come on, who can't cut up some squares of fabric, sew a straight seam, and tie all the corners with a little yarn?
When my nephew was born, I got some patterns for Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, and sewed them up for his shower. Wow, what a reaction they got! Cost me virtually nothing, because I used all leftover fabric, but you'd have thought I'd whipped up pure gold.
Anything hand made is treasured the most.
