My husband and I were planning to go to Asheville, N.C. for my upcoming birthday---to spend a few nights at a bed and breakfast, see the shops and visit the Biltmore Resort, but I've been wrestling with the fact that this would be so expensive. And recently, I've done something to my foot---and my heal is hurting. I know I'd never make it with all that walking so I had resigned myself to the fact that we'd have to stay at home.
Then I remembered today something that our son said the other night. He works at a resort here in town and he told us that he gets a discount on services there since he's an employee. So I called today and the woman said a night's stay at the resort would only be $69 a night for us---(it's normally $279) and we'd get 25 percent off all the spa services and dinner at the restaurant (if we book it in our son's name.) Duh! Why didn't we think of this before? It's a plush golf/spa resort that people come from all over the country to stay at. At first I felt foolish even thinking about spending the weekend at a hotel only 4-5 miles down the road from our house, but heck, I've gotten over that thought! Now I'm thinking---At this price, I might can take advantage of a massage, manicure and pedicure, and dinner at the restaurant. Factor in the savings on the gasoline we don't have to buy to get there and I may have one heck of a birthday coming up!!!!! Yeah! Sometimes the best things are in our own backyard! (I knew our son would come in handy for something someday.)
