Casey, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm afraid I can't be very encouraging.

I've been a word processor for law firms for a LONG time. When I was working for the last law firm, they really seemed to appreciate me and seemed disappointed when I quit to move up here to Washington State, so when I got re-located, I contacted them and told them I was available to work out of my home if they wished. Turns out they did. They sent me tapes (via UPS) to transcribe -- medical record summaries -- which I would do as fast as I could, giving them a real fast turn-around time; I'd drive it down to the local airport office of UPS, and ship it back overnight. This system worked real well for years, but lately they haven't sent me anything. (It's just as well, because I've been too busy with the new house.) I understand they've hired new people, so no doubt someone else is doing the work "in-house" for them now.

About a year ago I answered a classified ad for a legal word processor, even sent my resume in, but they insisted on me coming into the office and working there; they most definitely were not interested in having me work out of my home. It's just something companies aren't into, for some strange reason.... (However, I do understand that law firms are extremely hesitant to let any confidentially-sensitive work leave the premises, and lawyers are infamous for not wanting to let go of their briefs! Even when I was working "in-house," they wanted to stand over me as I was typing.)

By the way, Casey, the money I make from doing this is SOOOO little, not nearly enough to support me. Not even close. It never was, not even when they were sending me a lot of work.

Sorry I can't be more encouraging to you.

Bev
