Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | Is it possible to have "sympathy attacks"?

This may sound weird, but.....
Tuesday my mother-in-law had to go in for an upper GI scope (don't know the technical term) and a colonoscopy at the same time. My husband took the day off to take her and to be with her at her house afterwards. My IBS has pretty much been under control for quite some time now until Tuesday when I was hit with IBS-D, stomach cramps, etc. I had to leave work early and go home "sick". This carried on into Wednesday and I also had to go home early "sick" with D and stomach cramps. Never any vomiting or really feeling bad...just tired, etc. In those two days I took 3 Imodium and have been doing pretty good since Wednesday evening. Even ate pizza last night at a function where my hubby works. So I am wondering.....if this could have been a little "bug" going around....or if it was "sympathy attacks" for what my mother-in-law was going through. I know that leading up to her procedure (even though I wasn't there) the days before, memories of when I had a colonoscopy were going through my mind. Terrible memories of the prep, etc. And that was 8 years ago! I felt nervous and anxiety for her, etc.

Does this make sense? Has anyone else felt nervous for someone else when you have gone through what they are about to go through? Or am I just crazy.
