Hi,

For those of you like me who thought they had tried everything. I have had IBS(D) with severe pain for 3 years now. After doing much research and much contemplation, I decided to try Methadone. I originally tried this to alleviate the pain caused by my IBS. To my amazement, it has not only stopped the pain, it has also returned my bowels and stools to completely normal. It's hard to find a Gastro in the US to prescribe it for IBS, but in the UK it is commonly used to treat IBS. US doctors say treating with any opiates can cause "Narcotic Bowel Syndrome". This is why I avoided opiate pain killers for so long. Methadone has been an absolute God send for me. It's too bad I have to go to a drug treatment facility to get it! I also found that I was swallowing air in my sleep to remedy this, I take Simethicone (Gas X) 4 times daily and before bed, it has also helped a great deal with pain. From what I've read, it seems that the Methadone slows down small bowel motility and allows the body time to process food properly. At first I had to take a stool softener every night because the Methadone was constipating me. Now, all is well, I feel like I've got my life back!
