Welcome to the board.

It is wise to have a endo/colonoscopy to rule out other possible GI disorders. Most of us have had them. And if you are in your 50s then it is time to get an endoscopy to check for cancer polyps anyway.

Even so you might start following Heather's Eating for IBS (EFI) diet to reduce gas and bloating. You can probably learn most of the dietary management techniques from books and support forums like this. Many dietitian and doctor still recommend eating whole grain fiber to manage IBS which research has been shown to make symptoms worse. You will learn more about this and other GI stimulants that cause discomfort from the EFI information.
