Added sugars such as fructose is not the problem. Apples and particularly apple juice naturally contain excess fructose i.e more fructose than glucose. For example, one cup of apple juice naturally contains about 6 grams of glucose and 14 grams of fructose. In other words it contains about 8 grams more fructose than glucose. If you had trouble with Gatoraid it is quite likely that apple, pear and some other juices that are naturally high in excess fructose will be a problem too.
