After years and many wasted trips to doctors, alternative health care practitioners, acupuncturists, 2 expensive and non-productive hospital stays,
visiting websites promoting their protocols, purchasing some products, and massive amounts of research - I still had made no progress in overcoming ulcerative colitis.
Y'all know the symptoms of UC. I came close to dying a few times. We ended up moving to another state and my husband had to see a new doctor for some meds.
She diagnosed him with H-Pylori. As it is contagious, I was tested and found to also have HP. Come to find out that HP is often the basis for UC. (from further online research)

RX for HP did help temporarily but symptoms did return. More RX's, improvement and then relapse.
Then I met a woman who had been treated years ago for UC with RX's including steroids. Aha - another piece of the puzzle.
Made a Dr.'s appointment and got the 3 regularly prescribed RX's for UC and asked about steroids. When he realized I wanted the steroids to treat my large intestine not my stomach, he gave a script for the steroid pack.

After reading the steroid packet information, steroids are indicated for UC. For the first time in about 4 years I am close to 'normal' again.
Bathroom habits are wonderful. (only someone who's been through this can understand the sentiment!!) Symptoms are almost gone. I am so grateful for the people that I've run into that have helped me with their insights and stories.

My question is this: How many people are being tested for HP? It's a simple blood test. If you have been treated for HP before, you just need a stool sample to re-test. HP can lie dormant in your body for years.
Often as we age, our immune system weakens and that's when HP goes wild. It thrives in the lower half of the stomach. HP loves acidic conditions. Though it colonizes in the lower half of the stomach, it is found all over your body. What I realize, for me at least, that I have to treat my traumatized large intestine in conjunction with the RX's for HP in order to make progress. Are there drawbacks to steroids? Of course. There are also too many drawbacks to continuous UC.

I hope this information is beneficial to someone else. Looking forward to your comments and feedback.
