Hi again,
Dairy and red meat are high in protein (and also fat), and you may be craving more protein during this time. Chocolate is a natural anti-depressant (also high in fat), and you may also be feeling depressed around this time. When the body prepares for a possible pregnancy, it wants to store up reserves to nourish the fetus (conception) that might prove to be forthcoming. Taking birth control pills prevents conception, yet it does not change a woman's physiolocial make-up when it comes to the natural course of the menstrual cycle. I don't really have scientific answers, though these are my thoughts based on experience.
Chocolate soy or rice milk can satisfy the chocolate cravings, absent the offending fat that IBSers suffer from eating or drinking dairy fat. Use cocoa (safe) in recipes that call for chocolate (unsafe).
As I understand it, this board (The Living Room) is for anything NOT health related. You might get more responses if you moved your questions to the appropriate board and left this one for general life issues and/or sharing fun stuff... i.e. in general, a break from focusing on health issues. No offense intended.
My best to you!
