Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | Re: Will this end??? HELP.

Hi Sindi, I wanted to let you know I really sympathise with what you�re going through. I am also 24; my IBS developed whilst at university. I�m now living abroad (I�m from the UK) so I know how tough that can be in itself - but probably even more so for you because the weather, people, surroundings etc. must be so different from back home. But it really makes sense to me that your IBS should be particularly bad at this time of upheaval and readjustment - I find that changes in location and circumstances usually have some effect on my IBS. So keep thinking positive - it could well be that once you feel more calm, settled and at home in your new surroundings, your symptoms will improve.
As for the dreaded noises, I know that can be really embarrassing! When I worked in an office I was thankful for the background hum of the computers, which drowned out the gurgling! It�s good that you are going to try the fibre and bread, hopefully this will improve things, but in the meantime, maybe the best thing is to make a joke out of it, assure people it is not what they think it is and laugh it off. But if some rather sad, childish individuals are really thinking/saying unkind things about you, well then I would say they are not worth knowing anyway. Remember that the IBS have absolutely nothing to do with who you are as a person, and I imagine that most sensible people would be understanding about this.
Finally, remember that you are doing a very brave thing by moving to another country to study, so congratulate yourself! And although it isn�t easy, it will probably be worth it in the end - what you remember when you look back in a few years time won�t be the IBS, but rather, the friends you made, inspiring teachers you had, the interesting experience of living in another culture, etc. So hang in there, and keep trying out recommendations from these boards - hopefully something will help.
