Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

I have taken Align for about 4 months now. While I always beleived I was a D (and I suffer from a lot of D!) I recently learned it may actually be caused by chronic C, caused by pelvic floor dysfunction.

Anyway, with that being said, I didn't notice much improvement with Align until I had been taking it about 6 weeks. My bloating and gas were greatly reduced and I found my BMs were more regular and had more bulk. A number of things could have contributed to this (less stress for example) but when I missed taking Align for about a week and a half because I was late in re-ordering it, I noticed my symptoms got worse.

I think it's worth a good faith effort! My gyno told me it couldn't hurt and to give any medication or supplement at least 3 months. If it doesn't work by then, it probably won't. It sometimes takes time so don't lose heart!

My GI didn't think it would make much difference, but told me to try it and, again it couldn't hurt. He advocated it greatly when I had to take antibiotics a few months ago.

I have taken probiotics for about 6 years now. I swear by them for overall good gut/vaginal health. Just be sure to get good ones. They did some randomized tests a while ago on store brands and whatnot and found they didn't contain nearly the amount of cultures touted on the bottle. You want to make sure you're getting what you need (and whay you're paying for!!)
