I promised I would keep some of you posted regarding my progress with Lotronex and apologize for not staying current. My excuse for lateness is two-fold: (1) I'm constantly bushwhacked from over working and too weary to log on the computer when I get home, and (2) I'm feeling amazingly better, so not persuing here as much!
It took about 5 weeks for the meds to really kick in and do their thing, which was to greatly reduce all my IBS symptoms. I am now at week 8 and feel like a new person. Lotronex has definitely given me as much semblance of a normal life back as I could have ever hoped.
I have not taken any other med in over 3 weeks. I have not had D in about the same time period. My urgency, cramping, bloating, gas, etc are all improved greatly. I am still very strict about my diet, but am able to tolerate much higher portions of IF (cooked veggies, nuts, berries) and can drink coffee again without being in agony. I still have somewhat iffy days, but my good days out number my bad by far. Like I said, I feel like a brand new person, no longer chained by my fear of explosive D, excessive gas and inability to control my poos.
I am being closely monitored by my GI and have not experienced any constipation since beginning the meds. I am taking .5mg twice daily.
Anyway, if anyone is interested I highly suggest doing the appropriate research into the benefits and risks and talk to your doc. I am very glad I did!
