I am soooo sorry!!! My co-worker had the same thing happen to his 2-year old cat a few years ago - his kids found the poor thing on the couch one morning and the vet said the same thing, that it was basically a sudden heart thing. I didn't know such a thing could happen to a young, healthy cat.
I have lost many pets and it is always hard - I cry over all of them , even hamsters. They are all living things, each with their own personalities and they really do become a part of your life. It does get better with time but you will nver forget her. I too have always wondered about people who don't get upset when their pets pass away - but I guess they are the same people that treat pets as a novelty possession, rather than a member of the family.
I also have a torti - Tasha - she will be 11 this June. My husband and I adopted her from the SPCA when she was 6. I know that cats can live upwards of 20 years but I still can't help but worry that she may only have a few years left.
