Hi everyone. I'm 34, mom of 2 girls and I'm new to the site. I have been taking a couple weeks to read as much as I can and learn and make the dietary changes I think are going to help me.

Since about college, I've been someone who couldn't go anywhere without a dose of immodium in my purse. Only recently did I realize that that probably isn't normal! Granted, I would have long periods of feeling just fine, but then horrible gas/cramps/D would always return. The only 100% sure trigger I know of so far is coffee. In fact, in the past, laying off the coffee for a while would make the symptoms disappear. Stupidly, I only gave up the stuff completely about 3 months ago (and it wasn't easy!), and this time the symptoms did not go away. Having been on the diet and SF supplements for about a week now, the d seems to already be getting better, but I am still left with painful spasms on my lower left side that sometimes radiate downward. Tends to feel beter when I lie down and relax for a bit and goes away when I sleep. I take it this is a colon spasm? Is it unusual to have such spasms even while not having other symptoms? And if the diet isn't addressing this, is it time for me to ask my GI specialist for an antispasmodic? Would love any advice anyone has. And can I just add my gratitude to Heather and everyone here for making this website such a godsend!!
