I am 33 years old. Seven years ago I have an emergency surgery to remove my gall bladder. There was a stone the size of a quarter trapped in the duct leading from my gall bladder. From what the doctor said, this is very unusual, but if not caught in time can be fatal. I was lucky. Months after I started having severe diarrhea. My GP sent me to a Gastro doc that told me there was nothing wrong with me, and it was all in my head. I eventually found a great gastro doc, and he did both upper and lower scopes, and found that my colon was inflamed, and there were erosions on in my stomach and esophagus. Long story short, seven years later I am always so weak that I have trouble chasing after my 5 year old son. Year after year my body feels like it is just not mine anymore. I feel that I never quite wake up. I recently had to change my general practitioner, because my insurance changed. They did a full work up and found that I was iron deficient and had anemia, and that led to further blood testing. After all was done, the doc told me that I had pernicious anemia. This is when your body no longer breaks down or stores B12. My stomach no longer makes intrinsic factor. (the protein that metabolizes B12) I am going to a Hemo doc on Monday, for a follow up. I have had a B12 shot and will have to continue with them for life. Has anyone else had this same diagnosis? I am wondering if the gall bladder removal ultimately led to the PA.
