Over the weekend, the doctors officially said that there's nothing more that can reasonably done - anything else they could try would be "futile heroics". I'm signing the papers tomorrow to have him taken off life support. (Yes, somehow the role of primary decision-maker fell on me.) He'll be made comfortable, and if you're the praying type, offer up a few words on his behalf, that nature will take its course quickly, because he's suffered plenty long enough.
Thanks again for all the kind words, prayers, and good thoughts over the past 2 1/2 months - it might not have saved his life, but it certainly saved my sanity. You're all awesome. *hugs*
I'll probably be MIA for a week or so, however long it takes for things to happen and me to go back home to Maine.
