So... my birthday, and other updates

Hey everyone! Sorry taken a while for the update, been a bit crazy.

My birthday was REALLY cool - I won't bore you with the full details, they're on my blog if you're interested, but basically all went as well as could be expected.

We stayed in an amazing room at an awesome hotel, spent the night sat outside a really funky bar with J's sister and her friend, and I was out til the very late 10.30pm!! I only drank coke, and my tum did eventually flip - from eating next to nothing for 2 days, taking lots of Immodium and then drinking coke, but it did WAY better than I dared to hope.

I had some lovely presents from J, I'm gonna post pics tomorrow (of both the jewellery he got me and the hotel room), and quite a bit of money from various family members - as I couldn't think of anything to ask for this year.

Also, some more 'good news' - I went shopping yesterday! Not only did I go to the local mall (where I used to practically live pre-IBS), and not only did I do so relatively spontaneously, but I was there for a good couple of hours, my tum was fine, and I spent lots of pennies! I then drove back down home (I'd stayed at my parents for a few days, as dad's birthday is the day after mine) in Jamie's car, 'cause I'm still scared of mine, and it was great - I actually emjoyed driving again! It used to be my greatest pleasure til the crash early this year, but I've really struggled since, so driving J's car down here was bliss!

AND, there's more!

Firstly both my nan's have now had their diagnosis - and neither has cancer! It's not great or anything, they still have serious problems, but both are potentially treatable, and certainly better than the dreaded C word:

- My mum's mum, who they suspected ovarian cancer in, turns out to have a few ovarian cysts & some polyps, as well as her hiatus hernia. They really don't think they're cancerous, but won't know til they remove them, but they advised the safest course of action would be to do a full hysterectomy - remove the whole area in case it turned cancerous in the future.

Normally this would be relatively 'straightforward', but not only is she 82, but she has a weak valve in her heart, so she spent a week in hospital undergoing various tests, but they've ruled that she's sturdy enough for the operation - which is 30 Aug.

And it can't come too soon - she's SO weak and frail, literally can't eat and is wasting away, and she's also still losing hope by the day - it's so hard making her even try. But we're doing our best, and so is my grandad, so fingers crossed everyone!

- My dad's mum was suspected to have lung cancer, but it turns out she has 'fibrosis of the lung'.

Her specialist has advised that yes it is very serious, but that we shouldn't look it up on the internet as we'll only scare ourselves - she's in the best hands and we need to trust in them and hope. So I havne't looked, so far... She's on some new medication, and she has to attend hospital one day a week for treatment, so again- fingers crossed people!!

And the last thing to share, I have a potential 'sniff' of a job! Yes, technically I'm in no fit state to work, BUT, this could be perfect - J had a meeting with the Managing Director of one of his company's supplier and he mentioned he was looking for a PA, who had an understanding of marketing, understood basic conversational German, and was good at admin/computer, etc. And also had a strong character, good at presenting, etc - all stuff that, once, was me to a tee!

So J told him about me, including the IBS, and said that I might be interested - but would need to work from home a lot, couldn't guarantee to be in the office for 9am (it's a 25min drive away) but would always make the time up at the end of the day, and wouldn't currently be able to travel with him, etc.

He said all fine, heard a bit more about me and what I used to do, was apparently pretty impressed, and said even if I was only 25% interested he'd like to meet me!! It's still only a slim chance, but hey, it's the best opportunity I've had for a long, long time, that might even stand a chance of fitting with my illness. Jamie let him know I might be interested today, but was unavailable when he called back, so hopefully tomorrow he'll get the email address to send my CV (resume) too, and then I guess we'll meet up.

God I'd be terrified, I used to do stuff like this without a thought, but that feels like a whole other me! And my word I have no idea what I'd wear, none of my professional clothes would fit me. Anyway, I'll cross that bridge when/if I come to it - just wanted to share!!

So all in all it's been a great few days! I've had one horrible attack, and barely no sleep last night, and looks like same tonight (2am as I type), but the overriding feeling is positive. Bout time eh!!
