Hi there,
I feel for ya, I know exactly how it is to feel nervous all the time. About 2 years ago, I would get so worked up about going out that I would literally be in tears when I was about to leave the house.. even if I was going out for my own birthday or something. I went to a GI doc for everything and he put me on amitryptiline (sp). I used to be especially nervous on the bus. He put me on a super low dose, and after that I was gradually able to get out and about and on the bus. I would get a little nervous, but not like before. Eventually, I went off the medication because I too hated being on it (even if I thought it was helping me, weird) and I was alright for a while. When I got rid of other stresses in my life (changing my relationship with my mother, getting rid of a horrible "friend" I had, etc) my life did feel a lot.. lighter. I was also using the hypno CDs and felt they helped calm me down on the bus and stuff. Recently, though, it has come back with avengence because I have three times recently been stuck on public transport, between stops, in the air (we have a sky train) and the last time I had a major anxiety attack and have been really nervous again since then. I am thinking of going back on the pills just to get back to good again, and try weaning off... But first I will try the hypno CDs again to avoid more medication.
So I guess the moral of my story is... - First try to eliminate some external stresses that maybe you can do without (A friend that pressures you into going out when you don't feel up to it, a job that makes you feel anxious about using the bathroom, etc). - Second, try alternative things other than meds like the hypno program or like you are doing with the accupucture and all that. That stuff takes a lot longer, though, so I would definitely try to be patient and wait it out. - And third, if all else fails it might be that medication (at the lowest dose that still helps) is something that you need for a while.
I really hope you can start to feel better soon.. Especially because I have been so anxious lately, I really understand where you are coming from so I know it really sucks. Good luck, let us know how your alternative therapies are going!
Steph
