Yesterday evening while I was cooking dinner I was watching this show on the History Channel called 'High Hitler'. In it they discussed the primary ailments he had and how his (quack) doc ,Morel, treated them. Before and when he came to power, his primary illness was IBS-C. Yes, believe it or not! Now,no ,they did not say IBS on the show. However, every symptom they described was perfect IBS-C. Because of it, he abused laxatives. His doc actually claimed the C was due to his vegetarian diet! There is a well shown pic of him sitting slumped back in a chair staring with starry eyes at the ceiling just before Barbarossa. They said the look was because he was constipated. However, I'll bet he got a bad case of D after Stalingrad. Now, if Hitler had IBS, it is likely other people had it too. So it would seem as though IBS was around at the turn of the century. Does anybody know just how long it has been around and who was the first victim, and who were other notable victims? It's a known fact that Robert E. Lee had a bad case of D at Gettysburg. No, he did not get it after, he had it before and during the battle. There's no other mention of him having bowel problems however. Thus, from what I know it is uncertain that he had IBS. It brings up the question, was IBS around then? Maybe not, their diets were significantly different than ours, and the pace of life was a lot slower back then, i.e., not a lot of stress. So, does anybody have other anecdotal evidence or know any other facts about the history of this unwelcome 'syndrome'? -Bob
