Hi Terri I was pretty fortunate. I had a large, for the lack of a better description, pimple on my gum. When I called my dentist to schedule and appointment for the following day he insisted I drop everything and run in......didnt do alot for my peace of mind LOL. Long story short, I saw my dentist, an endo and an oral surgeon that day. The ultimate diagnosis was a repulsion. My tooth was decaying from the inside and infecting my mouth. The "hail Mary" treatment was a root canal....I wont know for about a year if Im going to keep the tooth and the infected chunk of jaw its attached to. I have no symptoms now. Whats all this have to do with the hubbies situation? Nothing except that mouth issues always seem to produce some pretty scary looking s**t.
What I suspect will happen is the doctor will either want to watch it and see if it changes color/shape/texture...or they will want to do a biopsy right away. If they need to do that, there will be a blade, a little blood and some pain. BUT....I have had some fairly invaisive oral surgery and the pain is fairly easily controlled. The biopsy would be less painful than a tooth extraction I imagine. No matter what, early diagnosis and treatment is key to these kinds of things. Let us know how it goes, Im sure it will be fine. I hope I helped...
