My husband has been complaining of his tongue being sore and he wakes up at night with pain shooting through it on one side. This has been going on for about a month, but he wouldn't let me look; until this morning. There's 2 white patches on the side that's painful and I've never seen anything like it before. He has trouble swallowing, too.

Since you've had some experience with mouth issues, I was wondering if you would answer some questions for me and refresh my memory a bit.

How do they test for cancer and is it painful? (hubby is very worried about this)

Were you having pain in your mouth where the sore was at? What did it look like? Symptoms?

What was your diagnosis and subsequent treatment?

What kind of specialist did you see?

If there's any info you can share with us, we'd appreciate it. My husband has an appointment on Tuesday with his doctor.
