Hi there I posted on the diet board about my daughter's ibs, but just cruising in here and saw your posts about Vit B12. I have had a problem with low B12 for 21 years since I was 21. The symptoms were, very very tired, could barely put one foot in front of the other and sore tummy all the time, not sharp but a low deep ache. Because of this, I have had the private specialist test Gabrielle to see if her levels are low. Any way, if you are low you need injections 2 or 3 times a week for a couple of weeks and then a maintenance dose. The Schillings test showed I had a malabsorption of B12 in the lower ileum, did not say what was causing it - I will need to find out. I had become severely deficient 4 or 5 times in 18 years but the last 3 and half years due to specialist suggestion, I have been receiving monthly B12 shots and will continue these for the rest of my life.
There are 3 out of 4 in my family (bros and sis) that are all on B12 shots, although I am the only one that has had the proper tests.
It is a very important vitamin. And in the beginning of my IBS I couldn't eat red meat, it just used to cause the most terrible cramps and diarrhea etc, it is at these times over the years as well that I have become deficient.
B12 is necessary for good brain working as well. You can feel the pick up from the injection within a couple of days, it really is amazing.
