Right now, I'm spending about £60-£70/month on food - when I was in the states, I think I was averaging about $150/month, but I was not a 'student' so indulged from time to time (Trader Joes, etc.).
So if you're breaking it down per day, it's just over £2/day here, and about $5/day back in the States - however, like other people have mentioned as well, I do all my own cooking, and rely on sales at stores to stock up on stuff, etc.
