Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

I'm new and just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I was recently diagnosed with IBS after years of thinking my pain and symptoms were just normal. I'm 33 years old and married. I'm a social worker with my states aging service. I love my job working with the elderly.

I wouldn't of ever been diagnosed if it wasn't for my brothers illness. My brother is 26 and was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. He's still very sick and just had his colon removed a few weeks ago. We just found out that the surgery did not remove all of the cancer. He'll have other surgery and another round of chemo in about another month. Because of his young age I was also sent for a colonscopy. I was found to already have Diverticulosis believed to be caused by the IBS-C. Right now I'm on an 8 week round of Zelnorm. I go back to the gastroenterologist Feb 9th to see if I've improved any. I'm still having pain, not as bad as before, but it's still pain. Another issue I have is bleeding off and on. If I don't improve enough the doctor said that he was sending me for a CT scan.

I've been pretty sick for over a year now. At first they believed that it was just a UTI because I keep passing blood in my urine. But now I'm having rectal bleeding off and on. I've had ultrasounds of my kidneys and bladder which looked normal. I'm kind of wanting a CT scan just to be sure they look at everything.

I'm trying to watch my diet, which is really hard to do. I've quit eating popcorn, nuts, seeds and corn because of the diverticulosis. That's helped with my pain and bleeding. I decided one day to test this diet and ate some peanuts. I bleed for 2 days and was in lots of pain. So I decided then that NO PEANUTS alloud.
