Well, Girlfriend, there are no surprises after 39 years of marriage. Actually, hubby never did surprise me with anything. Never brought me flowers, never any little gifts, no romantic nights, nothing like that.
Yes, I used to surprise him with little things, but then discovered they weren't appreciated. He's not that kind of person, and he's too fussy. Now we each pick out our own Christmas gifts, buy them ourselves, then give them to our mate to wrap and stick under the tree. No surprises, but no disappointments either.
Now, having said that, let me tell you that this is the best relationship I've ever heard of -- and I've heard of a LOT! Here's a little story that says it all:
My computer screen saver pulls up all my saved pictures and displays them, changing pix every few seconds. I was here at the desk paying bills yesterday, and the screen saver just happened to flash an old photo of me. Hubby stood here, with his mouth open and his tongue hanging out, when I said, "Yeah, I'd kill to look like that now." Hubby leaned over, kissed me very gently and said, "You'll always look like that to me."
That's the best little surprise any old broad could ask for.
