Living in a small town, it's no big deal if someone smiles or even waves - we all do that, even if we don't know each other. But holy cow, if someone gets the DOOR for me, especially at the post office, I smile for the next hour! I always hold the door for the person behind me, and definitely always get the door for an elderly person, a mom with little kids, or anybody with their arms full... and sometimes they all just look so surprised that I did that.
Random acts of kindness don't even have to be something out of the ordinary - even common courtesy isn't so common anymore!
