It will take time and you shouldn't rush things. Just let things happen each day. There will be more than likely good days and bad. Cherish each good day and know that there at least are good days As far as the male/female dog thing. I've had both. I'm looking into getting a puppy in the spring too as we put our 14 year old golden male to sleep in Sept. and still trying to decide on a male or female. Females are more affectionate in general I think. I think either would be good for you now. They are just the cutest things. I hope you decide to get one.
