I think I love your shrink.  She sounds wonderful, understanding, competent, and I'm glad you were able to get in to see her. I'm also glad you're feeling a little more at peace. Don't rush yourself... you HAVE suffered a big loss, and you will heal, but you have to be gentle with yourself and give yourself time. I know I haven't been responding to all of your posts, but I've been thinking of you just the same - please keep us posted on how you're doing. *hugs*
I don't have a dog, so it's hard for me to weigh in on that one, but I can tell you that my mother's dog - male - bonded immediately and equally well with both her and my stepfather. I think your idea is a good one, to go and spend a little time there, and see who bonds with you better. I'm all about trusting gut instinct on these things.
