I'm from Richmond, but my grandparents live in Newport News, and my dad drives all over the state for his job. Virginia gets hot and humid over the summer, across pretty much the whole state. It's not as bad in the western portion of the state because of the mountains. It does get cold and snowy and icy, but not as much on the coast. Roanoke is a slightly smaller city than Richmond, it's closer to the mountains, so it doesn't get quite as hot, but still about the same, and it gets colder and a bit more snow and ice usually.
