Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | constant cramp in the stomach region

Hi All,
I could sure use your suggestions and help here. I'm a 62 year old retired teacher and have always had off and on stomach discomfort. Sometimes this was caused from overeating,and I'm not a big eater actually as I'm quite lean, sometimes from foods that were too spicy for my system, and sometimes from simple nerves, yet there have been periods of several months at a time of no discomfort. Well the last 4 months I've had discomfort and burning starting below the navel but now it has settled simply as a seemingly neverending cramp in the pit of the stomach. A couple of times this week I had an 'Ensure' or 'Boost' drink to supplement with extra calories, and when I ate something an hour later it was quickly followed by strong stomach cramps and a short but quick bout of diahrea. I'm totally puzzled about what's going on, maybe it's an allergic reaction to the chocolate here and the endless ingredients in these drinks that my system is saying it simply can't handle. I'm going to do food allergy testing for a start. The doctors did an ultrasound and found nothing, I also had a colonoscopy several years ago that was fine. My acupuncturist says it's my parasympathetic nervous system that is affecting my stomach causing these symptoms. I'm open to ideas here to relieve the ongoing cramps because what is happening has got to be totally abnormal. I think I'll suggest to my doctor further tests to check the stomach for ulcers or even signs of stomach cancer.
