We were on vacation in our favorite spot in the world - the gulf coast - and we had gone out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary (which was the week before). He wanted to go by the beach at night, which we'd been talking about since the last time we'd been there and hadn't been able to go. So we were out walking and talking and we started talking about his sister, whom I didn't think approved of our relationship much and I started crying! He got all flustered and upset and kept trying to cheer me up, which I thought was odd since he'd never been so insistant I be happy about his sister before. Then after a bit when I'd cheered up, we were teasing each other, saying: "I love you more" and "NO, I love YOU more." And finally he said: "I love you more because I bought you this" and pulled out the box and opened it. It was really dark on the beach, so I couldn't see what was in the box and didn't want to scream "YES!" if it was a pair of earrings, so I asked what it was. And then he said: "Will you marry me?" And I knew. I started crying and screaming and hugging him at the same time. It was fantastic.
And then a couple hours later, back at the hotel, I caught a virus and starting throwing up. Fortunately, I was better the next day, but he jokingly says my reaction to his proposal was to throw up.
