It's kind of a silly story, so I thought I'd share anyway.
Last April I was visiting my mom - alone - Adam was back home. We called each other every night, but not wanting to rack up the phone bill, we mostly chatted on AOL.
So we were chatting, and wasting time on ebay, and we found THE PERFECT RING. I mean, I just fell in love with it... I've never been fond of big rings, and this was just such a cute, petite, vintage diamond ring. He asked me if I really liked it, and I said yes. He replied, "Refresh the auction." Yep, he'd bought me the ring!
Well, I was so darn excited, I was practically squeaking. He bought me a ring! Naturally, because I knew about it, it wasn't exactly a surprise, but of course I was thinking... well, would he propose when it got here? Hang onto it and propose later? Hmm...
When the ring got here, I was surprised all right: he tossed me the box like it was nothing. Erm... ok... well, we don't have the most mushy-romantic relationship in the world, so I just kind of shrugged and put the ring on.
It wasn't until a conversation almost a month later that I realized that he has absolutely no clue what an engagement ring is. Seriously. He's somehow avoided all the diamond-marketing brainwashing* and the whole 9 yards and he had no idea what he was buying me, so to speak. LOL!!
It's a darn good thing I didn't get all excited and tell everyone we were engaged! Haha.
So no, he still hasn't proposed, and I don't wear the ring all the time anymore, because I got tired of people seeing it and assuming we were planning the wedding!
* Nothing against the advertising and popular tradition and all that, but the fact that he's so clueless about that kind of thing is just one of the many reasons I adore him so much.
