I can definitely empathize (and sympathize) with your experience. I am a total wuss when it comes to needles, especially in my mouth! Like some of the others have suggested, I made sure I have a dentist that uses nitrous oxide. In the US they have to have a special permit to give it--I'm not sure about Canada, but it really helps. I wouldn't have any serious dental work without it. I know dental work is very expensive here (I had a crown that cost $900 and I had to pay half of that).
